If you are a roofer, builder, cleaner, landscaper or any other tradesperson, a good website can bring in enquiries around the clock. But prices vary hugely – from free DIY builders to agencies charging thousands of pounds. This guide explains what affects the cost of a trade website and what to check before you pay.
The main ways trade websites are priced
DIY website builders
Tools such as online drag-and-drop builders let you create a website yourself for a monthly subscription. They can be a cheap starting point, but you pay with your time, and many tradespeople find it hard to get a DIY website to look professional or show up on Google.
One-off website packages
Many web designers charge a fixed, one-off price to design and build your website. For UK trades, prices commonly range from a few hundred pounds for a simple one-page website to well over £1,000 for a larger, custom-built website. Hosting and domain costs may or may not be included, so always check.
Monthly plans
Some companies build your website for little or no upfront cost and then charge a monthly fee – often around £100 per month for trade-focused plans. This spreads the cost, but over two or three years the total can be much higher than a one-off package. Check whether you own the website if you stop paying.
What affects the price?
- Number of pages – a one-page website costs less than a website with separate pages for each service and area
- Custom design – a design built around your brand costs more than a basic template
- Features – quote forms, galleries, booking systems and online payments add to the cost
- Content – whether you supply the text and photos or need them written and sourced for you
- Ecommerce – selling products online requires more setup than a standard brochure website
- SEO and ongoing support – search engine optimisation, updates and maintenance may be priced separately
Hidden costs to check before you buy
- Is hosting included, and for how long?
- Is the domain name included, and will it be registered in your name?
- Is an SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser) included?
- Who owns the website and content once it is paid for?
- What do updates and support cost after launch?
- Is there a minimum contract or cancellation fee?
A cheap price can become expensive if hosting, support or changes are all charged extra, so compare the full cost over two or three years, not just the upfront price.

Is a website worth it for a tradesperson?
For most trades, yes. A website gives you a place to show your work, collect reviews and win enquiries directly – without paying for each lead through a directory. It also works alongside your Google Business Profile to help you appear when local customers search for your services. If you want to be found more often, read about our SEO for trades.
